In a significant crackdown on cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 127 suspected internet fraudsters in a sting operation at nightclubs in Akure, Ondo State. The operation, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, June 8, 2024, was targeted at a party dubbed the "Yahoo Party," reportedly organized by the alleged fraudsters.



According to EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, the suspects were arrested at Signature and Abah Clubs in Akure. Oyewale clarified that no soldiers were injured during the operation, contrary to rumors. The suspects, who had originally planned to hold the party on Wednesday, moved it to Saturday after realizing the EFCC was onto them.

The EFCC's crackdown on internet fraud is part of its ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime, which has become a growing concern in Nigeria. The commission has been working tirelessly to clamp down on internet fraud, commonly known as "Yahoo Yahoo."

Items recovered from the suspects include ten exotic cars, phones, laptops, a motorcycle, wristwatches, and many incriminating documents. The suspects are currently being held in the EFCC's Ibadan office, where they are undergoing profiling.

The EFCC has assured that the suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded. This operation is a significant milestone in the EFCC's fight against cybercrime, and it serves as a warning to those involved in such activities.
