The Anambra State Police Command has arrested Unegbu Chika, a 51-year-old man from Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area, for allegedly defiling his 14-year-old house help. The suspect was apprehended following a tip-off from a whistleblower to the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare.
According to the victim, the suspect had been sexually abusing her since 2019, when she was just 8 years old and started working as a house help in his home. The victim alleged that the suspect's actions became more frequent after his wife's death, and he threatened to keep the abuse a secret.
The suspect, however, blamed his actions on the devil and claimed it was a mistake he deeply regrets. "The act was due to the death of my wife, and it's a mistake which I regret deeply," he said.
The state police command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect is in police custody. He will be charged in court at the end of the investigation.
